Privacy Policy

By accessing or using this website, you agree to be bound by all the terms and conditions of this User Agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use this site. This website is controlled and operated by Anderson University from its offices within the United States of America. Those who choose to access this site from other locations than the United States of America do so on their own initiative and are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws.

Any claim relating to, and the use of, this site and the materials contained herein is governed by the laws of the state of South Carolina.

Information We Collect and How We Use It

This section describes what the AU Makerspace website itself collects. It applies in addition to Anderson University's own policies.

  • Your account. Your name and @andersonuniversity.edu email address, and a password (stored only as a one-way scrambled hash — no one, including staff, can read it). You may optionally add a phone number and a profile photo. If you had an account on our previous website, we carried over your name, email address, phone number (if you gave one) and the date you joined; nothing else was moved, and you must confirm your email address to activate it.
  • Reservations and check-ins. The machine, date, time, your name and whether you checked in. Your name and the times you booked appear on the public “Today’s Bookings” schedule and the makerspace kiosk; your email address does not.
  • Files and comments you send us. Anything you upload or write on the Reserve page is visible only to signed-in makerspace staff.
  • Material requests. The project, items, links, notes and dates you enter, and the progress of each request, are visible to you and to makerspace staff. The name of the staff member who first viewed a request is shown to you.
  • Creations you share. If you submit a photo to “Show Your Creations,” your photo, title, description and name are shown publicly once a staff member approves it. Your email address is kept private and used only to contact you about the submission.
  • Photos. Location and camera details embedded in uploaded photos (EXIF data) are removed when the photo is saved.
  • Emails we send. Account confirmations, password resets, reservation confirmations and reminders, waitlist openings and material-request updates. These are delivered through a third-party email service (Resend), which receives your email address and the message.
  • Cookies. One cookie that keeps you signed in, which is deleted when you close your browser. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and may embed Google Maps or a Google Form, which means Google can see that your browser visited those pages.
  • Records we keep for running the site. An activity log of bookings and staff actions (kept about a year) and a log of technical errors (kept about 30 days). Our web host also keeps standard server logs.

We do not sell your information. It is used to run the makerspace, and is shared only with the service providers named above, with Anderson University staff who need it, or where the law requires.

Deleting your information. You can delete your account yourself from your profile page while signed in. That removes your account, your upcoming reservations, your waitlist entries, your material requests and your profile photo. To ask for anything else to be removed, or to ask what we hold about you, email makerspace@andersonuniversity.edu.

Anderson University does not warrant or represent that your access to our website will be free from interruptions, errors, computer viruses, or other harmful components. Neither Anderson University, nor any other party involved in creating, producing, or delivering this site or any site linked to this site shall be liable in any manner whatsoever for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your access, use, or inability to use this site or any site linked to this site. Your use of this site is entirely at your own risk.
